When preparing your contacts for import, there are 2 primary things to keep in mind:
1. The format you'll use
2. The contact types and statuses you'll use

You can use 1 of 4 formats:
1. Basic Contact List (as supplied by Market Leader) - For simplicity, and to match the tips I list below, I've uploaded a template and you can download it here
2. Outlook 2007 CSV
3. Top Producer 8i
4. MyRealEstateTools / MyRedTools

You'll classify contacts as one of the following types:
     1. Buyer
     2. Seller
     3. Buyer/Seller
     4. Agent
     5. Renter
     6. Investor
     7. Vendor
     8. Other
You'll further classify each of these 5 types as one of the following statuses:
     1. Lead
     2. Hot
     3. Warm
     4. Cold
     5. Pending
     6. Sold
Adding contacts as a "Lead" triggers a system email, and is therefore not recommended. Because an upload requires at least 5 contacts, you'll rarely have enough Pending to put into an upload after your initial eEdge setup. As an agent, you the only reason to set statuses for fellow agents is for growing your profit share (i.e. - a "Hot Agent" may be one who is seriously considering joining Keller Williams and naming you as their sponsor).
☼ - I recommend you classify Vendors as Cold so they don't show up in searches you may run for marketing.

Using the template I reference above, enter your contacts on the first tab/sheet ("To Import") by typing in their information manually or by copying the column from your source file and pasting it into the corresponding column, starting on line 2.
► NOTE - Line 1 must remain as is, with the headers remaining unchanged.

For example, if you have a database with 20 people in it, open it and copy the 20 cells with first names, go to the cell A2 (the first blank cell in the "First Name" column) and paste them there. Select the 20 cells with last names, go to cell B2 (the first blank cell in the "Last Name" column) and paste them there, etc. If you don't have any information for a particular column, such as the Gender or Birthdate columns, just leave those cells/columns empty.

Once you have your contacts in the "To Import" tab, select the row(s) of contacts with the same type & status (for example, Warm Buyers), select 'Cut' and go to the first blank row on the corresponding tab and paste them there. Once you have all the matching contacts together (at least 5 on a sheet/tab), remain on that tab and click "Save As" and save the file as a ".csv" format using the tab name and current date.
☼ - I recommend saving the file with a name such as "2015-01-30 Warm Buyers.csv" This helps you know how to classify them and what date you're uploading them.

After you've completed the import, open your main file and move the contacts from the specified tab to the last tab, marked "Imported." Doing this will help you track what contacts have been imported and which ones still need to be imported.

► NOTE - All contacts MUST have an email address (that does not match another contact already in your database) or a physical mailing address. The system will kick out rows with empty email and address/city/state/ZIP fields.
► NOTE - Your file must contain at least 5 rows. For adding less than 5 contacts at a time, you must enter them individually.
